Fast becoming a popular, but “off the beaten track” life style choice and holiday destination. Matarangi has an active property market directed very much at the golfing and boating fraternity.
Fishing, Boating and golf.Situated on the white sandspit opposite Whangapoua Harbour and with Ocean Beach on your doorstep, Matarangi offers a wealth of water activities. Fishing is a popular past time with a new boat ramp that launches into a protected harbour(with a bar). Land based fishing is also very popular with many spots towards Whagapoua as well as between Matarangi and Rings Beach – which is the closest beach to the south end of Ocean Beach.
Walks in the areaMatarangi Bluff Track
Access to the short track is from the end of Goldfields Drive in Matarangi, or from the northern end of Rings Beach. It’s an easy walk up to the cell phone tower. The 4.7km walk loops through replanted native bush which has been part of a popular program for our local schools. This enhancement of native trees and a trapping program has encouraged the return of the endangered Fernbird.
