around Whitianga. The Craft and Garden people in our
area are of high calibre, mostly working from their
homes south of Whitianga to Coromandel. Over the winter
months is pays to call before visiting and the Information
Centre will do this for you. Enjoy visiting our special

Mercury Bay Art Escape 2010
A self drive Art Tour of Artists Studios and related Art Events around Mercury Bay on the East Coast of the Coromandel Peninsula New Zealand. This annual Coromandel art event is over 2 long weekends, February 5 - 7 & March 26 - 28. It showcases a diverse group of working artists studios including painters, sculptors, jewellers, printmakers and ceramic artists. Immerse yourself in an amazing tour of arts, meet the artists and purchase art from established and emerging Mercury Bay artists. The opening day of the tour will culminate in an Opening Reception and Taste of the Tour Exhibition at Hot Waves Cafe in Hot Water Beach at 5.30pm. See details at

At Whenukite there's
an interesting pottery - you'll notice the potter
in the paddock working all hours, inviting you
to drive in to Alan Rhodes studio, where there's
a fine array of domestic stoneware, salt and pit-fired
ware. Alan uses local clay and very distinctive
glazes.

A glorious two-acre garden with
well established large trees, lawns and featured pond.
The varied plantings provide year round colour, particularly
spectacular in the spring. Part of the garden is used
as a wedding venue incorporating a large marquee lawn,
formal lavender garden, rose covered gazebo. The special
"Knot Garden" was planted in 2001 using 750
box-hedging plants as a focal point for daughter Rebecca's
wedding in Nov 2002. Open
